Vinexpo 2019: the “head and heart” exhibition… and resolutely international
Asked to sum up Vinexpo, Vinexpo’s new chief executive officer, Rodolphe Lameyse was very clear: “It’s a ‘head and heart’ exhibition”.
Head – because there is a strong business aspect which has always been the case since the beginnings of the show. But it’s also the information that can be gathered thanks to the Vinexpo symposium, which this year spotlights climate change. Heart – because there is an “extra” programme which is absolutely incredible, with tastings at a very high level.
The show is at the same time 100% business and 100% international. Indeed, it’s a case of travelling “around the world in four days”. Four days to travel the world of wines and spirits, meet the key decision-makers, do business, discuss the strategic challenges the industry faces and enjoy an immersive experience surrounded by the most prestigious vineyards.
Buyers from the world over come to Vinexpo Bordeaux to taste and order products. Row after row of producer countries exhibit the wealth and variety of the world’s wines and spirits. All of France’s regions are there. International corporations sit side-by-side with smaller, family enterprises. Wine and spirits brands from South Africa, Austria, Georgia, Portugal, Germany, Italy, the UK, the US, Sweden, Turkey, Lebanon, Vietnam and China offer tastings of their ranges. Where else can you taste a New Zealand Chardonnay then a South African Chardonnay within a few steps of each other, before moving on to a Malbec or to appreciate the skill behind the Bordeaux blends?
