The official opening of Vinexpo Hong Kong 2018 took place just after 10am yesterday, beginning with the ribbon-cutting ceremony and lion dance, followed by an extensive tour of the show floor.
Vinexpo CEO Guillaume Deglise cut a “20th birthday cake” along with the Honourable Senator Anne Ruston, Australia’s Assistant Federal Minister for Agriculture and Water Resources, representing the Australian federal government at the show.
“The event is once again breaking new records, with 1,460 exhibitors coming from over 30 countries, confirming its standing as Asia’s leading wine and spirits exhibition,” stated Deglise. “Asia is the world’s fastest growing market for wine, and the largest market for spirits, both producing and consuming.”
“Today I am the Minister for Wine and I shall continue with that title. I like it very much,” quipped Senator Ruston, also thanking Brian Walsh, the chair of Wine Australia and his team, who organised Australia’s presence at Vinexpo: There is no more important trade show than the one here. For us, in the past, there was the tyranny of distance of having to always to go the Northern Hemisphere or to the US, and we now find that the greatest and most important growing market for Australian wine is right here on our doorstep. So, for us, Vinexpo Hong Kong could not be more important”.
